New Orleans
Keynote speaker in New Orleans
When an organisation brings its people to New Orleans, the session is competing with the reason everyone was excited to come. That changes what works on stage.
The room has somewhere else to be
At a hometown event the audience goes back to the office afterwards. At a destination event they go out. By the second afternoon a meaningful part of the room is tired, and the ones who are not are already thinking about dinner.
Sessions that survive that are shorter on setup and quicker to the argument. The slow build that works at nine in the morning at a local all-hands does not work in the graveyard slot on day two of a destination programme, and pretending otherwise is how a good talk lands badly.
Slot placement matters more here
Ask for the opening or the closing. The middle of day two is the weakest slot at any destination event, and a speaker who tells you that before you book is more useful than one who takes it quietly and hopes.
